A REAL Snow Broom... Thicker. Stronger. Better.

Every time I sweep snow with a regular broom, I wonder why there isn't one designed specifically for snow.
Once again, it snowed in New York, and this time there was a lot of dusty snow that the shovel didn't pick up, so I reach for the broom. After a few minutes, the broom becomes worthless. It's gummed up with so much snow that the head is now twice it's original size. So I stand there banging it on the curb over and over trying to at least get rid of some of the snow. Eventually, I simply reach for another broom and start the process all over again.
What bothers me most is that my broom was pretty new, and now it's taking a real beating, and to make matters worse, after it swelled up like that, it seemed like it was spreading more snow than it was moving. That's because with all that snow, the bristles only stick out a fraction of an inch.
So, I went online to see if they had a broom specifically to sweep snow. All I found were little ones designed to take the snow off your car, including the super deluxe one I use to clear my Jeep. I've got news for you. By the time I clear half the Jeep, that car sweeper gets just as caked up and useless.
So why doesn't anyone make a good broom for snow?
An ongoing theme here at Idea Of The Day is that many ideas that eventually make it to market started out as ideas so simple everyone assumes that they already exist, or that they are so obvious that somebody must've already thought of it. I'm sure a lot of people have already thought about how badly a regular broom is for cleaning snow, and some may have actually designed one and it never caught on. Well, let me say this, if I saw one in a store today, I'd buy it, and as I keep saying, when your idea is something that you would buy, but you can't find it, there's an opportunity for somebody to make money.
How would a Snow Broom be different from a regular broom?
The main thing is that a snow broom doesn't need quite as many bristles... that just creates a problem anyway when it gets caked up in snow and starts to swell off.
Another important feature would be that the bristles should be much harder, perhaps made out of hard rubber or even metal. This lets you scrape up the spots where footprints have formed.
Lastly, the space between bristles should be large enough so the snow can fall out when you shake it or tap it on the ground.
So, if you're in the broom making business... that's it. Go out an make me a broom we can actually use.
