Howard Sterns Channel 9 Shows Should Be on DVD and Netflix

Why hasn't Howard Stern's Channel 9 TV shows been released on DVD and Netflix?
Back in 1990, when Saturday Night Live was struggling for ratings, Howard Stern's produced a TV show from New York's Channel 9 (WWOR). It started out as a local show, but the ratings were so strong that it was syndicated nationwide within a few months.
To say it was a ratings success is an understatement. In the New York area, the audience was twice as large as NBC's Saturday Night Live.
In Los Angeles, he had a whopping 34% share of males in the 18-49 demographic.
The Howard Stern Channel 9 Shows were the talk of the town. By Monday morning, everyone talked about what they saw on the show. It was fresh, it was wild, and sometimes it seemed like it was out of control. It made you wonder how the heck they made it past the censors.
The show itself was a reflection of the radio show. It was a mixture of talk, celebrity interviews, sketches and lots of women. Back then Howard seemed to have an obsession with strippers, cross dressers, and lesbians, and he found ways to blend them into every show.
In spite of the high ratings, the show was cancelled in 1992 because it cost too much to produce. It was a simple matter of economics.
The show still has a cult following. Fans trade bootleg copies of the show, but there has never been an "Official" DVD release, in spite of the huge demand. Since the show aired before his radio show's peak, there are still a lot of Stern fans who never saw it... or even heard of it.
I don't know what they're waiting for. Perhaps they haven't worked out the royalties, or Stern could be waiting for the original Copyright to expire, just like Jackie Gleason did with the Honeymooners "Lost Episodes". Whatever the reason, it's time they get their act together and release this classic show on DVD and Netflix. Perhaps if enough people make some noise about it on social media, it'll finally happen.
