FedEx is behind the times.

When I think of FedEx, the first thing that comes to mind is overnight letters, which were the mainstay of their early years. Now that there are so many other ways to send documents digitally, you would think FedEx would focus on the competitive home package delivery business, which they are seriously at risk of losing to the US Postal Service, and in the very near future, to Amazon.

One of the best things about Amazon is Amazon Prime, their 2-day delivery service. To make the service even better they even negotiated a deal with the US Postal Service to include 7 day deliveries, which was unheard of until recently. Ship to an email address? Why not?

Today I'm expanding on one of my most popular ideas from September 11, 2014, Ship Real Packages and Letters Privately... by Phone # or eMail address?.

It's based upon the idea that people should be able to move from place to place, yet still have the same mailing address.

To me, a mailing address is just like a phone number or email address. You should be able to move and not have to notify anyone of the change.

To make this happen, the US Post Office, FedEx and UPS just need to let people register for an account with a unique ID that represents YOU, not your physical address. It doesn't matter what that code is. They can assign you a code, or let you use something... [More]

Wouldn't it be great if we could ship packages to people with nothing more than a phone number or email address?

Yes. I'm serious. What I'm proposing is the creation of a simple system that will let people walk into FedEx, UPS or the Post Office and send a package by using something as simple as either a phone #, eMail address, or even a Twitter ID
