Ronald Reagan had an entirely different opinion on building a wall at the Mexican border.
The subject of building a wall between the United States and Mexico isn't new. It's been talked about for decades, but it picked up a lot of steam when Donald Trump made it the cornerstone of his Presidential run.
The issue of illegal immigration was just as important back in the 70s and 80s, when Ronald Reagan was running for office, but he had an entirely different opinion. His solution was literally the complete opposite. Reagan was opposed to the idea of building a wall because he knew that physically keeping Mexicans from crossing the border was only a symptom of the actual problem, which is that the Mexican economy was weak.
