You Call THAT Cheese?

There's a big difference between American Slices, American Singles... and REAL American CHEESE.

If you go to the dairy department of just about every supermarket, you'll find bunch of products that say everything from "American Slices", "American Singles", to completely made up names like "Velveeta", but when you read the label, the one thing they're not allowed to call them is "American Cheese". That's because, they're NOT American Cheese.

They're made from milk, just like the real thing, but they're processed and have a completely different taste and texture.

The interesting thing about most of these processed cheeses is that although you often find them in the refrigerated section of the supermarket, most of them don't require refrigeration. They do that to give you t... [More]

Chopsticks Forks!

If you love eating Chinese food with bamboo chopsticks, you'll love this invention.

Just about every authentic Chinese restaurant serves their food with bamboo chopsticks. Most of the time, the sticks are fused together at the top, so you have to pull them apart before you can use them. That's the inspiration for today's idea.

As I sat in a restaurant a while ago pulling my chopsticks apart, it occurred to me that if they bevelled the top, and made slits, the fused end would make a pretty good bamboo fork. This would be perfect for people who have trouble with chopsticks, without the restaurant needing to give out additional silverware.

Star Trek is coming back to TV. Unfortunately, it'll cost you $10 per month to see it.

I've been a Star Trek fan since the early 70s, so I was super excited to hear there was a new series in the works. The series will be called "Star Trek Discovery" and it takes place about 10 years before the timeline of the original 1960s series.

It's been a while since Star Trek was on TV, so I was looking forward to the new series until I heard that you need to subscribe to their CBS All-Access service to see it. For what it's worth, I don't mind paying a monthly fee for streaming services. I already pay for Amazon Prime and Netflix, but this is different. Other than Star Trek Discovery, CBS doesn't have ANYTHING I'd be willing to pay for, so it's not worth paying $120 per year for jus... [More]

McChicken Cordon Bleu - McDonald's Mashup

Why is the McDonald's menu so boring? They just need to mix things up a bit!

Ever since McDonald's started serving breakfast all day, I've been thinking of ways they could blend their breakfast ingredients with their dinner and lunch items. The result is a mashup between the McChicken, and the Canadian Bacon on the Egg McMuffin... Toss in a bit of cheese and you get a McChicken Cordon Bleu!

Of course, you can make this yourself by ordering both sandwiches, but why not put it on the menu? They've already got the ingredients.

Burger With a Side Order Of WHAT?

You want fries with that? No Thanks. I'll take a Tums or Rolaids.

This may sound like a joke, but I'm totally serious. I'm one of those people who loves fast-food, but sometimes it's a bit too much for my stomach to handle. Wouldn't it be great if they sold antacids in fast food restaurants?

Instead of asking if you "want fries with that?", why not ask if you'd like a couple of Tums? That would make things a lot easier for me.

The Snack Problem

Whatever happened to single serving snacks?

It's nearly impossible finding single serving snacks such as potato chips in delis and convenience stores these days. Just about every snack in the store tends to have 2 or 3 servings per package. It's no wonder so many people struggle with losing weight.

I like to grab a quick snack with my lunch, but it's becoming harder and harder to find snacks that come in sensible package sizes. Not only are these larger snacks more expensive, they often leave you no choice but to either throw some out, or eat more than you should.

I wouldn't mind so much if they at least came in re-sealable packages.

Foods packaged specifically as individual snacks should always be packaged with no more than one serving per package, so if a serving si... [More]

McDonald's Italiano

McDonald's already has all the ingredients to make this Italian classic.

When a restaurant like McDonald's already has a wide selection of ingredients, it makes you wonder why they don't try mixing some of them to add entirely new items to the menu.

For example, McDonald's already sells millions of McChicken sandwiches each day, and they sell Mozzarella Sticks, which come with a small container of marinara dipping sauce. You don't have to be a professional chef to see how those three things can be combined to make a a potentially popular new menu item, McChicken Parmesan!

Since McDonald's already has suppliers for all three ingredients, don't you think it would be a good idea to add a McChicken Parmesan to the menu?

Yummy!

No Chips Ahoy!

My favorite part of Chips Ahoy! Chocolate Chip Cookies... is the Cookie!

I know this sounds strange, but I love the cookie part of Chips Ahoy! cookies more than I do the chips, so why not make a No-Chips Ahoy cookie, that has just the cookie part, without the chocolate chips.

McOnion Rings. Onion Rings at McDonald's

Why doesn't McDonald's have Onion Rings on the menu?

Onion Rings are one of the most popular hamburger side dishes in the world. Unfortunately, you can't order them at the world's most popular hamburger restaurants.

That's pretty strange when you think of just how popular they are at Burger King and White Castle, not to mention just about every other diner and restaurant that sells hamburgers. It makes you wonder what they're waiting for?

Where's the Cheese Fries?

Everything tastes better with cheese.

One of the most popular items in restaurants and diners is cheese fries, but for some reason, you rarely see cheese fries in fast food restaurants like McDonald's and Burger King. Isn't that strange? Every fast food restaurant has the ingredients, and there's obviously easy to make; just pour melted cheese over the fries.

It doesn't add up. If there's a definite demand... and they already have the ingredients... and they're easy to put on the menu... Why doesn't Burger King or McDonald's offer them?

Ketchonnaise!

Why don't you ever see pre-mixed Ketchup and Mayonnaise?

Just about everyone would agree, ketchup and mayonnaise are a great combination for hamburgers, french fries, onion rings, and seafood, so why doesn't any major food company package them pre-mixed in bottles or take-out packets?

Europeans like mayo on their fries, Americans like Ketchup... why not have both?... at the same time?

For many people, a mixture of ketchup and mayonnaise makes the perfect dipping sauce for fish sticks and things like fried shrimp. it's the perfect Tartar Sauce.

Yes, I realize people can easily mix the two at home, but that's not the point. There are a lot of condiments that are simply blends of two other condiments, like Dijonnaise, and Honey Mustard.

It's all about convenience. If a... [More]

The Trouble With Pop-Tarts

Why the heck do Pop-Tarts come TWO per package?

Look, I like Pop-Tarts, but not enough to eat two at one sitting. Most of the time, I'm all I want is a snack, not an entire meal.

Pop-Tarts come in a box of 8, with 4 packages of two each inside, so whenever you're in the mood for one, you have to figure out what to do with the second one. If you put it back in the package, it dries out longer before you eat it.

If Pop-Tarts came in individual packages, you could eat them one at a time without any waste. Doesn't that make sense?

A the very least, if they insist on packaging them in pairs, they could at least use a resealable package.

Square Bologna

Why are most cold cuts still round?

Last time I checked, most bread was square, but most cold cuts like Bologna are round, so whenever you make a sandwich, chances are your cold cuts aren't going to cover the whole slice of bread.

The solution is simple, either the bread should be round, or the cold cuts should be square and since it's much harder to make round bread, it seems to me that cold cut companies should work out a way to make square cold cuts. Thankfully, cheese and most hams come are already square, but somehow salami and bologna are still round.

How McDonald's Can Improve Their Iced Tea

I only buy McDonald's Iced Tea in the morning, because it tastes horrible at the end of the day!

The most important thing about a fast food chain is product consistency. They spent decades perfecting a system so that when you order something from any McDonald's in the world, it will taste exactly the same as any other McDonald's, with no exceptions.

Unfortunately, because of their efforts to be consistent, this means that no matter which McDonald's restaurant I've been to, whenever I order Iced Tea later in the day, it's NEVER as good as the Iced Tea they serve in the morning. That's because McDonald's doesn't refrigerate their Iced Tea, which makes their Unsweetened Iced Tea exceptionally bitter for the second half of the day.

By contrast, if you order Unsweetened Iced T... [More]

One of the best things about Chipotle Mexican Grill is their large serving sizes. One of the worst things about Chipotle is their large serving sizes.

There's no doubt about it, the serving serving sizes at Chipotle Mexican Grill are generous, to say the least, but sometimes I'm not hungry enough to finish my meal because they only offer one size... LARGE, which means when I'm looking for a light meal, I can't really find anything on the menu that works.

This is a real bummer for me because I LOVE Chipotle, but there are a lot of times I choose another place just because I know their regular size is too big.

Smaller sizes would also be great for kids and people who are counting calories.

Although one of the things that made them popular was their humongous sized bu... [More]
