Do you remember when The Tonight Show had Guest Hosts?
One of the coolest things about The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson (besides Johnny), was the A-List celebrities who filled in for him as a Guest Host on his days off.
NBC stopped using guest hosts after Johnny Carson retired, which is a shame. Personally, I'd rather see a fresh show with a guest host than a rerun with an outdated monologue and guests promoting a movie that's no longer in theaters.
Guest hosts weren't just fill-ins. Some of them were truly A-List celebrities like Frank Sinatra, Don Rickles, George Carlin, or Steve Martin, who would never commit to a daily TV show, but were eager to fill Johnny's seat for a night or two.
