Why is it so hard to get good Apps on the Amazon Kindle Fire?

We need App Store freedom!
Greed is holding the computer industry. If the future of computing is in mobile devices and tablets, we need better cooperation between device manufacturers so that popular Apps work on every platform. As things stand now, you can't run a lot of the most popular iOS Apps on the Amazon Kindle Fire, and that's a shame.
Amazon blocks Apps from just about any company that competes with them. That's why you won't find third-party apps for books, music, or movies, including Barnes and Noble's Nook, or the Google Play Store. As a matter of fact, they even block third party browsers like FireFox and Google Chrome because they want to monitor and control all your web searches.
This problem isn't limited to Amazon's Kindle Fire. Apple has similar restrictions on competing platforms but they don't block them completely. Apple allows you to use all the major web browsers, and they have Apps for many of the competing music, book, and video services, but they set limits on how you can make purchases using competing platforms. In a nutshell, they allow Amazon, Google and other companies to have Apps in their App Store, but they expect a 30% commission on purchases made from within their Apps. Unfortunately, this means that you can read Kindle Books on your iOS devices, but you'll need to purchase them from the web.
For what it's worth, I realize they're all just trying to make money, but these kinds of restrictions mean that people need to own multiple devices because their favorite Apps aren't on every platform. If you buy an iPad, you can't run a lot of Android Apps. If you buy and Android device, you can't run a lot of iOS Apps.
The strange thing is if although the Kindle Fire runs on the Android platform, Amazon has so many restrictions that you not only can't run a lot of popular iOS Apps, you can't even run many of the most popular Android Apps.
If we expect this market to grow, device makers need to open up their App Stores so that the most popular Apps are available without greedy restrictions. If every device maker removed their restrictions, they may lose some revenue from competing Apps, but they'll earn revenue whenever their own Apps appear on their competitor's platforms.
