Before You Vote, Research the Candidates.

Sometimes, I don't vote.
For many years, I made it a point to vote at every election. It didn't matter if it was a national or local election. I felt it was my civic duty to vote. Some years I would walk into the voting booth, not even knowing who was on the ballot. I would pull a few levers for names I thought sounded familiar. When in doubt, I'd pick whatever names were in my party.
Does this sound familiar? Have you ever cast a vote for somebody without knowing anything about them?
To be honest, voting without knowing anything about the candidates is not being patriotic. It's stupid.
What if everyone voted without knowing anything about the candidates? Wait... I think an overwhelming majority of people are already doing that... No wonder we've had so many problems.
If you don't know who's running, why are you voting?
Don't vote blind. Before you cast your vote, do some homework.
When I don't know any of the candidates, I've finally realized theres no value in my vote, so I don't vote. Does that sound unpatriotic? The point here is now I do my homework, so that when I do vote, at least I have a better chance of picking somebody that represents my values.
It's not rocket science. This is the 21st Century. Each candidate has a website and I'm sure if you can Google who played George McFly in the Back to The Future sequels, you can get all the information you need to walk into that voting booth with pride and KNOW who you are voting for.
So here's my challenge you. There's still time. Take a few minutes before Election Day to learn about the candidates.
Could you imagine how much better off we would all be if everyone who voted actually knew who they were voting for?
