Multiple Independent Keyboard / Mouse Pairs. Collaborate In Real-Time On The Same Computer.

Wouldn't it be great if two or more people could use the same computer... at the same time?
In spite of their massive computing power, Macs and Windows PCs both have one odd limitation. They were designed from the ground up for one person to use at a time.
If Windows and Mac OS X had support for multiple keyboard and mouse pairs, each pair of keyboards and mice would be able to independently launch applications giving them the ability to truly collaborate together in ways that have never been imagined before... On the same computer... even the same monitor... at the same time.
If the computer has multiple monitors, each user would simply sit at their own desk and have their own desktop, however since they would be using the same computer any interaction and file sharing between the users would be drastically faster than if they were simply connected through a traditional network. Instead of sharing files, they would be able to simply drag the window onto the second monitor, allowing their co-worker to review it or make adjustments, then pass it back.
Using one large monitor, the handoffs would be even faster. Both users could interact with independent programs in a window, or even the same program, in the same window. Since they share the same monitor, the system would simply use a different color for each user so they would know which pointer on the screen is theirs.
In theory, once a framework for allowing two keyboard and mouse pairs is created, there could just as easily be support for unlimited pairs
This would even be useful for home users. Instead of buying a whole computer, they could just buy an inexpensive monitor, mouse and keyboard and they would instantly be able to share the same computer.
