Manage From The Left... But LEAD From The Right.

Are you a Logical Left Brain Thinker? ... or a Creative Right Brain Thinker? Maybe you should be both.
If I gave you a pen and asked you to write your name on a piece of paper, I would know within seconds if you were right or left handed. This is because the thought of using the opposite hand for something as complex as writing is simply out of the question. Our brains simply favor one hand over the other.
For the same reason, many of our other brain functions favor one side over the other, which can have a major effect on our personality. It determines how we think, what we like, how we see the world, and how we make decisions. Although it's harder compare left vs right thinkers, there are clear differences.
Most left brain thinkers are characterized as logical, organized, and scientific thinkers. These people find ways to get things done and they show an attention to detail that makes them great managers. If you've got something to do... a left brain thinker will make sure it's done right.
Right brain thinker is generally the opposite. These people are often characterized as creative, emotional people with vivid imaginations, who focus on the big picture, rather than details. While these people may not have the tenacity, focus, skills, or attention needed to get things done, they see things that others can't and they have the ability to create new ideas from thin air. Because many of them also are great communicators, they are good at getting other people to see and believe their vision, which is invaluable for leadership.
History has shown us that most of the greatest leaders have had some combination of both sided thinking, but their right side is what made them great leaders.
The lesson here is to be aware of your own strengths, so that you can take advantage of them, and consciously find ways to tap into your weaker half. For some people, the best way to embrace the other side is working together with somebody who has a reverse mindset. Steve Jobs, clearly a Right Side thinker had Steve Wozniak, then Tim Cook, Bill Gates had Paul Allen and Steve Balmer, Kirk had Spock, Walt Disney had his brother Roy.
