iTunes Purchases Should Be Downloadable Forever.

What good is a digital purchase if you can't find it?
If you've been using iTunes for a while, there's a good chance that some of your earlier purchases are no longer available in the iTunes store. Whenever those items are removed from the store, they also vanish from your online library, which means that unless you make copies of the original files, there's no way to download them again. How dumb is that?
So, many of your old music, movies, books, apps, and audiobooks may be missing right now, and you won't even notice until you look for them.
I first discovered this after I purchased a bunch of Audible audiobooks from iTunes.
Since audiobooks tend to be pretty big files, I would periodically delete them from my local computer, under the assumption that I could re-download them any time I wanted them... I was wrong.
After upgrading to a new computer, I went to iTunes to download my previous purchases and noticed most of my Audible books weren't there. Thinking it was a glitch, I called Apple and gave them the name of one of the audiobooks, and they not only confirmed that that book was no longer available as a download, but they gave me a list of other purchases that they knew were no longer downloadable.
Since many of the missing purchases were from Audible, I called Audible next and asked if they could restore the books I ordered through iTunes and they told me they didn't have access to sales through iTunes.
Without access to the original files, my missing purchases remain just that... missing.
Whenever a customer makes a digital purchase, that purchase needs to be forever.
At the very least, they should send notices whenever something is scheduled to be removed from the iTunes Store, informing the customer to download and archive it before it's removed.

UPDATE - Apple Finally Changed the Policy Regarding Audiobooks
According to a March 11, 2016 post in MacRumors
Audiobooks Purchased From Apple Can Now Be Re-Downloaded Through iCloudAccording to the post:
Quote:
Apple recently updated its policy on audiobooks, allowing customers who have purchased audiobooks directly from Apple to re-download them using iTunes in the Cloud through iBooks on iOS devices or through iTunes on a Mac or PC. Audiobooks are now listed in a customer's iBooks purchase history and can be re-downloaded just like standard e-books.
According to a support document on downloading past purchases, the change was made on March 3. Prior to that date, audiobooks could not be re-downloaded through iCloud and were only available if they were included in a backup made on a Mac or PC.

UPDATE 2--- Still nothing
Although they added an option to re-download audiobooks, it still won't let you download titles that are no longer in the iTunes store.
Therefore NONE of my audiobooks are listed.
