Amazon Prime Instant Video Support on Apple TV, Android and Chromecast

What are they waiting for?
The future of television is streaming, and there's a war going on to control it.
The first winner is Netflix. When they transitioned their focus from shipping physical DVDs to streaming movies over the Internet, they quickly became the gold standard in online streaming. One of the reasons for their growth was nearly universal support for playing their content on just about every platform in existence. You can play Netflix content on every computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone, game console, BluRay player and dedicated streaming box in existence.
Now that Google, Apple and Amazon have entered the streaming market, they took an entirely different approach, because all 3 of them are also producing their own streaming devices. Amazon has Fire TV, Google has Android and Chromecast, and Apple has Apple TV.
The trouble is, if you buy one of their devices, you are unable to play content from their competitors. That's just plain stupid.
So, if you buy an Apple TV, don't expect to play Google or Amazon content. If you get Google's Android or Chromecast, you can't play Amazon or Apple channels.
I originally suggested that Apple TV should support Amazon Instant Video back in February, but the problem has gotten even worse. Not only is there no planned support for Amazon Instant Video on the new 2015 Apple TV, but Amazon has decided to stop selling Apple TV and Chromecast. It's rare for Amazon to ban the sale of a competitors products, so you can see things are starting to get ugly.
Thankfully Roku builds devices that play Netflix, Amazon Prime and other services. It seems like the only way to get universal support for streaming services is to stick to building hardware.
