Apple Landline Phone System

A better landline phone can only come from a company like Apple.
Mobile phones have come a long way in the last 10 years, yet landline phones aren't much better than they were 40 years ago. Simply stated, landline phones are junk.
It's not just because mobile phones now have enough computing power to do things like play games and surf the Internet, smartphones are also much better at being... a phone. Everything about making and answering calls is easier on a Smartphone than it is on a landline. Heck, even most flip phones do a better job than a landline phone.
It's the little things, like having an easy to use contact list, so you don't have to memorize phone numbers and worry about dialing the wrong number, or making conference calls... not to mention sending text messages.
Apple should build a landline system that uses WiFi and Bluetooth devices such as iPhones, iPod Touch or iPads as extensions.
This would let people have all the features of their smartphone when they're home. Unlike a regular smartphone, this system would use a base station that plugs into a traditional landline plug. Ideally the base station would have a large touch screen for doing things like playing back voicemail, leaving voice messages, or using the contact list, but each individual Smartphone would be able to make or answer calls whenever they're in range.
Everyone in the home still has their own phone number, but they can all share the landline phone number.
