Autonomous Planes With Self-Defense - Anti-Terrorist Systems

We have cars that can take control to prevent accidents. Why can't planes do it too?
Let's face it. In the wrong hands, a commercial aircrafts is a massive weapon, yet we don't have any safeguards against pilots using them as a missile?
It's not like we don've have technology to make them safer. Today's cars can not only apply the brakes when they sense an accident, but they can even take over the steering. In fact, Google's fully autonomous car doesn't even have a steering wheel and it's been proven to be safer than a car that has one.
There have been automatic pilots in planes for decades. They can already take off, land and navigate without pilot intervention, so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize these systems would be perfect as an autonomous self-defense system for commercial aircraft.
An autonomous self-defense system not only protects the plane and it's passengers from pilot error, but it can prevent a terrorist pilot or passenger from intentionally crashing the plane.
Any time an aircraft has a trajectory that is harmful to either the passengers or the target, the plane should take control, and fly to safety.
Ideally, once a harmful trajectory is detected, the plane should remove all control from the pilot until it lands safely and is reset by an air traffic controller or government authority.
We have the technology. We need to take action and eliminate the possibility that another terrorist will use a commercial aircraft as a weapon.
