Microsoft Shouldn't Force Windows 10 Down Your Throat

Microsoft really, really, really wants you to run Windows 10.
Over a year ago, I created a post about why Microsoft should offer Windows Subscriptions, with free updates for life.. The main argument is that it's pointless for Microsoft to sell "upgrades" of Windows because the upgrade price wasn't worth it. To pay $100-$200 just to get the latest version of Windows was completely pointless.
As I mentioned last year, because of the high price to upgrade, most people stick with the version that came with their PC, until they get a new one. Because so few people have the latest version, there is little incentive for software and hardware companies to release products specifically designed for the newest versions of Windows. So, in the long run, charging for upgrades is hurting Microsoft, because the majority of their customers were using their older versions.
My solution was simple. Since they make most of their operating system revenue from OEM sales, they should stop selling upgrades and make all upgrades free for the life of the computer.
Apparently Microsoft finally realized their strategy is wrong, but now they want to shove it down your throat.
Not only did Microsoft make the upgrade to Windows 10 free, but they now make it hard for people to NOT upgrade, by making the download automatic. At first they just put a little button on the screen to reserve Windows 10, but they eventually went one step further, by making the upgrade part of the regular Windows Update system, which means it will now download itself automatically, whether you want it or not.
The trouble is, some people don't want Windows 10, or they simply don't want to be forced to do it until they have the time. There's a funny video on YouTube that illustrates the problem perfectly. In this clip, a Windows Upgrade popped up right in the middle of this woman's TV weather forecast.
While I applaud their initiative for finally making the upgrade free, they need to remember that Windows 10 isn't for everyone. It uses more RAM and disk space, so it's slower on older computers. Besides, some people simply don't like changes and they don't want to learn a new system, and they certainly need to decide when they are ready, not have it thrown in their faces when they least expect it.
