They need to make a Spamalot Movie!
Monty Python and The Holy Grail is one of the funniest movies of all time. It was an instant cult classic and 30 years later, it became the inspiration for Spamalot, the hit Broadway musical. It featured dozens of original songs that weren't in the original movie and it was a huge hit on Broadway. It even won the Tony Award for Best New Musical, yet over 12 years later, it's never been made into a movie.
Some of you may be saying, "If Spamalot is based on Holy Grail, why make a new movie?", but that's missing the point. There's a long history of Broadway Musicals based on movies, which were later made into movies... that were based on the musical.
For example, Mel Brooks's 1968 movie The Producers was made into a Broadway Musical, then later made into a movie version... of the musical. Another example is Hairspray, which was a film in 1988, then a Broadway musical in 2002, and a movie again in 2007. Other examples are Little Shoppe of Horrors, not to mention countless movies that were based on Broadway Musicals.
I live in New York City, so I had the opportunity to see the original Broadway production, but there are millions of people who will never get the opportunity to see it in person and experience musical, unless they finally decide to make a movie version of it.
I realize some fans of Monty Python's Holy Grail may feel that a film version without the original Python cast wouldn't be as good as the original, but that never stopped the Broadway version from getting laughs.
