We Need Better Pedestrian Technology

Pedestrians need better technology to avoid accidents at intersections.
Cars today are loaded with all sorts of technology to avoid accidents, but pedestrians technology hasn't changed in decades. Isn't it time somebody put some effort into finding new ways to cut down on the number of pedestrian accidents too?
The problem is many drivers speed up when the traffic light is about to change, often catching pedestrians by surprise, giving them no time to get out of the way. What we need is a warning system for both the driver and pedestrian, based on radar, sonar or laser sensors. When sensors detect a car zooming down the block in the direction of a pedestrian, both the pedestrian and the car should have some sort of visible and audible warning that there's a potential collision, so that the driver and the pedestrian can take steps to avoid it.
