5 Great Reasons for a WiFi Safe

Yes. I know. There's no such thing, but here are 5 reasons somebody should build one.

Some of the best ideas start off sounding pretty strange until you find at least one practical reason for them. Here's five.

5. Show me your homework. I'll unlock your PlayStation Controllers

Here's the scenario. You're at work. You kids call you up in a panic...

Kids: "Where's my PlayStation controllers?"

Mom: "I put them in the safe."

Kids: "How do I get them out?"

Mom: "Did you do your homework?"

Kids: "Yes."

Mom: "Send me a picture of it and I'll unlock it."

4. Put a WebCam inside so you can always see Your Precious.

Give yourself piece of mind by triggering a lighted WebCam view of Your Precious, whenever you fear that some 111 year old Middle Earth dweller may come along and take it.

3. Use a SmartPhone to program it to remain locked until a certain time and date.

Tempted to buy the latest Apple products the day they come out? Why not lock up your credit cards until a week later? This will give you enough time to take a deep breath and think it over. Who am I kidding? The real benefit is it keeps you from waiting on line the night before. The lines will be shorter in a week.

Seriously, the ability to program it to remain locked until a certain date and time could also be a great tool to for people who struggle with self-control. You could lock up something as simple as a candy bar, video game, iPad, cigarette, credit card, or whatever you are trying to cut down on for a few hours. When something you crave is out of reach, you are actually more relaxed because you know you can't do anything about it until the item is returned.

The key is control. When you predesignate the time you will indulge in whatever you crave, you are basically taking control of your future behavior, by anticipating time you will be weak and returning access when you think it's best.

2. It's more secure than a combination lock.

Unlike a combination lock, a WiFi lock could potentially be more secure, by allowing you to create much more complex passwords and allowing you to unlock the safe remotely whenever you need to give somebody temporary access.

1. I'd buy one.

While I can't guarantee that anyone else would buy one, the fact that one techie guy would want one, means there's a market for other techie guys to want one too. This generally leads to non-techie people seeing them and saying "I want one too". That's business 101.
