Music Shuffle, Should Actually... Shuffle.

Didn't I just hear that song 20 minutes ago?
Call it a case of Deja-Vu, but have you ever noticed that your music player seems to play some songs over and over, but other songs never seem to be played at all. How can that be? Most of the time, it's because Shuffle isn't really a Shuffle. It's Random.
Contrary to what some people think, Shuffle and Random are two different terms, so let's be clear about the definitions of Shuffle, and Random.
When you take a deck of 52 cards and Shuffle them, you change the order. When you're done, you still have 52 cards, but the sequence changes. If you deal them out from the top to the bottom, you won't repeat any cards.
Random, on the other hand simply describes taking something in no particular order. To use the playing card analogy, taking cards at random would mean you select a card from no particular place, then put it back into the deck and pick another card, which means that there's a strong chance that some cards would be picked multiple times, before others get picked at all.
The problem with music players like the iPod or iPhone Music App is that they call it Shuffle, but the only way it will do a true shuffle is if you keep it playing non-stop. So, if you leave your player on long enough, it will play every song exactly once, without ever repeating. However, as soon as you exit the player, or turn it off, the list is re-shuffled, which means there's a good chance it will repeat some of the songs you already heard, before getting to the stuff that wasn't played.
To solve this, all the player has to do is save the list that it is currently playing, and make a notation of the current position in the list. By doing this, if you listened to your music on Shuffle on your way to work, it won't play any of the same songs on your way home.
