Why Loyalty Cards Are Biased Against Men.

Women have handbags. Men have pockets. Get the picture?
Whenever I go into a store and they ask for my loyalty card, most of the time, I don't have one. Sometimes I give them a sad look and hope the clerk will swipe their own card so I can get the discount. The rest of the time, I just suck it up and pay full price.
This has bugged me for years.
As a guy, I don't have enough space in my pockets, so having a wallet or a keychain full of loyalty cards is simply way too much to ask for. So, like most men, we often miss out on the benefits of loyalty cards.
Thankfully, some stores now link your loyalty card to your phone number, so men can finally start getting some discounts, but a larger number of stores still don't have this option.
Personally, I think coupons sent via email are a much better option, because it's not biased against men or women, however I realize that since my company sends coupons via email, I'm a bit biased to even bring up the subject.
Even if you don't agree with me completely, you must admit that the average woman carries quite a lot more loyalty cards than the average man.
It's possible they like saving money more than men, but I'm convinced it's because they lack the space.

Good. I like it that way. Let them do all the shopping.
I just want to sit at home and watch football.

The smartphone solution
Hey, since just about everybody (men AND women) carry a smartphone today, why don't the retail merchants just make their loyalty program available through this device. That would alleviate the need for men (and women) to pack a "fat wallet" or an obscenely large keychain.

I totally agree.
I can't wait for stores to stop using those cards. The future is clearly digital.
