Hand Cleaners Should Be In Every Restaurant

Cleaning your hands before and after eating is not a new idea, but very few restaurants think about it.
Like most people when I'm home, I tend to wash my hands just before eating. It's almost automatic. I don't even need to list the benefits. The idea of washing your hands before eating has it's roots to traditions that are thousands of years old, long before people even understood the benefits of removing germs.
With that in mind, why are there so few restaurants that offer their customers an easy way to wash their hands, before or after eating?
The first place I ever visited that took hand washing seriously was a Japanese Hibachi restaurant. Once you were seated, the first thing they handed you wasn't an appetizer, but a dish with a hot towel. It made us not only feel good about our own hands, but it gave us the feeling that they took cleanliness in the whole restaurant seriously.
While it wasn't uncommon for a restaurant that served fried chicken or ribs to offer you a wet-wipe after the meal to wash your hands, it would be another 20 years before I encountered another restaurant that thought about hand cleaning. It was at one of my favorite restaurants, Joe's Crab Shack.
At Joe's Crab Shack, they not only offer moist towelettes, but they also have multiple sinks on both sides of the FRONT door, with a sign welcoming patrons to wash their hands. So, you can finally wash your hands before, during and after your meal, and without heading to the bathroom.
