Hey Joe, nice article. It baffles me why Gmail doesn't offer traditional aliases. Though you can receive messages sent to your email address using the format yourname+alias@gmail.com and can set up filters to automatically label these messages, trash them, etc. I sometimes use this method for sites I don't trust.
Problem is, sometimes you don't want to expose your personal email address and there are automated scripts that collect these emails, removes the +phrase, and you'll get the spam in your main account anyway. I don't really worry much because Gmail's anti-spam feature is pretty good, but there's always a situation where an alias comes in handy.
Another thing I have is Gmail pickup my mail from other pop accounts. It is a routine that runs automatically around every 30-40 minutes and I can send mail from Gmail using these accounts. It's a nice feature that I use for those junk type email accounts also. I can access them all from one place.
