Universal Toll Tags. Every Car Should Have One.

Why are toll tags optional? Everyone should have one, and they should work everywhere.
When toll tags were introduced, I got one the first day they came out. From that day forward, I can't even imagine why they aren't mandatory on all cars.
The idea is simple, anyone with a tag doesn't have to stop the car and dig into their pockets to pay a toll. Who wouldn't want that? As it turns out, a lot of people, and that bugs me, because those people cause a lot of traffic jams.
Whenever I find myself in traffic near a toll plaza, it turns out to be caused by people who don't have a toll tag. The people without tags line up for nearly a mile blocking the toll tag lanes, which are nearly empty. The only way we can get rid of these bottlenecks is for toll tag to be mandatory when you get your registration. It they made them mandatory, within 2 years, everyone who renews their license will have one and these traffic jams will vanish.
One of the roadblocks is the fact that there isn't a universal toll tag that works in all 50 states. That's stupid. The underlying technology is fundamentally the same. There needs to be one standard, or people from out of town will still clog up the toll lanes.
The bottom line, if you drive a car, you should have a toll tag, and that tag should work in all 50 states. With such a system, every toll booth in the entire country could be eliminated. For cars coming from Canada or Mexico, they should be issued a tag when they cross the border, and they can return it when they leave.
If anyone removes their tag, they should get a ticket.
For those who oppose toll tags because they think "Big Brother" will know where they drive... that's a bogus argument, because most toll booths already use cameras to capture license plate numbers as they pass through, so they're already being tracked.
