FaceTime and Skype for Hospitals

The next best thing to being there.
Every day, millions of people use FaceTime and Skype to connect with friends and family from around the world. It doesn't matter if they're across town or thousands of miles away. When people see each other face to face, it has a way to make them feel like they're in the same room.
Video calls have he power to convey emotions and situations that simply can't be expressed by voice alone. Besides the obvious advantage of seeing the smile on somebody's face, there are a wealth of emotions that can only be read by looking someone in the eye, not to mention the subtle things like nodding your head or using your hands.
This made me think about how useful FaceTime and Skype would be in a hospital or nursing home. If you've ever spoken to a patient in a hospital room, you know how frustrating it could be trying to visualize where they are, or how they're feeling.
When somebody has limited speaking abilities, they're voice may sound week or raspy. It's hard to understand them unless you read their lips or watch their hand gestures.
Most of all, it gives friends and family the ability to connect. It can be lonely in a hospital or nursing home, so giving patients the ability to see your face is important to them as it is for you to see theirs.
It would be great to have a system where the TVs in each room have webcams, and the patients answer by simply hitting a button on their remote. If patients have physical or vocal abilities, the nurses can answer the calls and turn on the cameras for the patients so they can see their friends and family.
For privacy reasons, the webcam would be turned off by default and only answered by the patient or the nurse whenever the patient is ready to accept a call.
