NFC Gun Lock Rings

Gun safety for the 21st century!
Owning a gun is a big responsibility, which is why gun owners take precautions to insure their gun doesn't end up in the wrong hands. We've all heard stories of children killed when the owner didn't adequately put it away, or of owners who were killed by intruders who somehow managed to gain control of the weapon. Although it's rare, there are even times when a criminal manages to shoot police officers with their own guns.
In recent years, gun makers have been looking for new ways to prevent unauthorized use of guns, including things like "Smart Guns" that feature fingerprint locks. However, as most people have discovered, fingerprint identification, such as on the iPhone isn't very reliable, especially if the owner has dirty hands or is wearing gloves.
In a life or death situation, you can't take chances with an unreliable system like fingerprint recognition. NFC is far more reliable.
If you're unfamiliar with NFC, it stands for Near Field Communication, and it uses low power radio signals to pass along a secure ID over short distances. The most popular example of NFC is Apple Pay, which allows people to make purchases by tapping their iPhone or Apple Watch on a payment terminal.
A recent started called NFC Ring may have the perfect solution to this problem, a ring with an NFC chip embedded inside. The NFC Ring was an immediate success on KickStarter because it opens the door to a whole bunch of security related possibilities. There aren't many uses for the ring right now, but it would be pretty easy for a gun company to produce a lock that can prevent unauthorized users from firing a gun without wearing the ring.
Unlike fingerprint locks, an NFC based system would work just as well when the owner has dirty hands or is wearing gloves.
When your life is on the line, every second counts, so the main thing is insuring that the lock doesn't get in the way. NFC can be the answer.
