Another Star Wars Question... Shmi Skywalker

Anakin Skywalker had no way to contact his mother, because she was a slave. Or was she?
Here's another interesting mystery from the Star Wars prequels. We know Anakin wasn't able to contact his mother because she was a slave, but in Episode II, we learn that Shmi eventually becomes free, marries Cliegg Lars, then has another son named Owen (Luke's uncle).
This begs the question... Once she was free, why didn't she find a way to contact Anakin at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant? Even if the Lars family lacked a starship, I'm sure there would be a way for a free woman to at least send her son a message. If nothing else, to let him know she's okay... and happily married... and that he now has a half-brother.
